Global Design Language System
When I began at Discovery, there was no single Design Language System that was centralized across multiple applications, regions, surfaces and languages. As part of my remit to oversee both Global Product & Design, we needed a solution that would not only apply to multiple applications and viewports, but one that would be able to quickly and easily scale globally across multiple languages, territories and regions.
As part of building an entirely new suite of applications, sites, and connected systems - I led the team of Design, User Experience, Interaction Designers and Design Operations to develop a uniquely fluid Design Language that could be easily adaptable to any product, platform and experience. The success of the effort allowed our teams to include off platform branding and channels, partnerships and even product, sonic and on air language
The User Interface, Copy and Language across screens, surfaces and viewports can vary broadly. The Global DLS was designed with flexibility, translation and localization in mind to ensure that the product experience was not only useable and useful, but delightful for our customers.
The Discovery+ Design Language System was created as a foundational tool and reference library for teams around the globe to easily develop new screens, interactions and features. The success of the DLS expanded beyond Discovery+ and was utilized as best practices across the entire company as a guideline for all other brands and experiences.
