More people consume content, communicate and engage on mobile devices than any other screen. Nearly 18 billion mobile devices will be in the hands of people by the year 2024.

Every Product Designer and Product Manager must develop portable strategies and experiences for a truly connected world. From live streaming and voting to social apps, emerging content and communication channels - the world has become rapidly more connected - Everything is Mobile.

Be Socially Engaged

Whether it is visual, motion, or video, designing products and creative for social feeds is a type of storytelling that mixes short and long form content. Social is one of the most important forms of creativity today. At NBC, my teams created micro-stories, journeys and forms of acquisition that stood out, converted people to subscribers, and kept audiences engaged with content they loved to share 24/7.

Connect People with Content

Connected TVs and living rooms are rapidly increasing in scale and complexity. More people than ever before are watching their favorite series, events and content through connected TVs, Voice UI, gestures, and non-traditional remotes creating multi-device scenarios.

My teams design shared product experiences that align non-traditional searches with personalization. Putting passion audiences, and families at the center, the Product & Design Teams create ecosystems with empathy - connecting people with the content they love.

State of Play

While working at NBC, my Product & Design Teams developed and maintained several Play-A-Long apps to drive and support our live event based programming. The Voice App was originally designed as a companion voting app, but over time, it evolved into a must have play-along app with habit forming features like Build-A-Team, Song Sentiment, and The Instant Save. The Voice App altered the way that fans would engage with the live experience and was nominated for an Emmy.

Multi-Modal & Voice

In 2014, we launched The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon through a series of custom apps and mobile experiences across multiple platforms and screens. This included a completely new digital brand ecosystem to set Jimmy apart from his late night competition.

Today, the app continues to evolve across the Alexa Multi-Modal experiences with voice enabled commands, scheduling, jokes and storytelling.

Intelligent Holistic Experiences

Living spaces and living rooms are becoming more intelligent, predictive and progressive within the whole home ecosystem. Screens are no longer contained to rooms or devices, but integral to the entire smart home. From Voice UI and Gesture UI, to touch enabled commands and anticipatory/invisible design systems - the future of the smart home is driving rapid innovation for products.

Security, Entertainment, Appliances, Lighting and Scheduling are all managed through voice, physical space and ambient sensors. Product and Design leaders must strive to satisfy core needs, drive value & create meaningful human experiences through connected technology.

Future Systems

While working at Microsoft, I had the pleasure of co-leading a team to envision the future of connected and intelligent interface systems.

Our purpose was ideate and incubate a modular and responsive system that integrated the entire Microsoft Ecosystem while providing a branded design language system that could scale globally across multiple devices and human touch points.

The project was ultimately successful in driving commonality of products and design language systems across numerous devices and touch points across the globe.
